Sententealight's Onyx (the item) Guide

Backups of original guides from DoMO forums of the past. The majority of these were backed up from posts on TWDomo.com before its domain expired (most of which were originally retrieved from Aeria by Angitia and Aaron). Extremely old.

Onyx (the item) in Our Experience
Sententealight wrote:Now that onyxes are finally tradable I have encountered a lager amount of them and decided to add guide to the world of onyxes based on my character Ischa’s experience with them. This is a work-in-progress so I will be updating as I find information.

What is an Onyx?
Onyxes are items that can be inserted into equipment for a variety of stat boosting effects. Onyx is also a colorful stone and a DoMO sever. In the following example the Onyx is in the top right corner of the inventory:

Where to get Onyxes:
  1. Dice Chests (From quests: higher level quests/dice give higher level onyxes)
  2. Monsters (usually +7% attack against the monster that dropped its job) (the level is the lowest lvl range onyx of the monsters level -5) For example: lvl 43 monster would drop a lvl 30-40 onyx; While a lvl 48 monster would drop a 35-45.
  3. Cash Shop (so far seem to be weaker and low level onyxes only)
  4. Seizer's Palace won at slot machines.
  5. Quests (confusion dance quest and others)
  6. Other Players
Dice Chests and onyx levels: (thank you AK Frost)
Pig 10~20
Dog 15~25
Chicken 20~30
Monkey 25~35
Sheep 30~40
Horse 35~45
Snake 40~50
Dragon 45~55
Rabbit 50~60

I am unsure as to what the 3 colors; green, red, and blue, mean.

Terminology
  1. Suitable slot:#” indicates the number of slots the onyx will take up. In other words, you must have that many free slots on the item if you are going to add your onyx.
  2. Insertion times” is the number of times the onyx can be added to equipment. (example Insertion times:2/2 means that the onyx can be inserted removed and inserted once last time.)

General facts about Onyxes:
-There are no onyxes below level 10,
-The level range is always 10 starting at an integral of 5. (example: 30~40 or 35~45)
-Suitable slots vary from onyx to onyx; just because you find an onyx level 20-30 with two slots doesn’t mean you can’t find an onyx 20-30 or even 30-40 requiring one slot. I believe the “high grade” onyxes require 1 slot while the “low grade” require 2. Note that some onyxes may have a higher tendency to be 2 slot or may be only 2 slot.
-You may want to write down or remember your insertion times because you cannot see the insertions left over on a currently inserted item.
-Onyxes may be traded to the Onyx buyer for dice that have a chance to get you a new Onyx.

Equipping an Onyx:
Requirements:
-The correct number of slots is available. The number of slots required is specified on the onyx as the number of “Suitable slot:#” (usually 1 or 2). The Suitable slots numbers vary from onyx to onyx and may be the onyxes "grade."
-The level of the gear falls in the level range of the onyx.

How to insert an onyx:
  1. Unequip item if it is equipped.
  2. Either double click on a mallet or onyx in your inventory or go to the skills menu (ctrl-x) click on the tab named “Everyday skills” and click the bottom right button labeled “Onxyes”
  3. Select the Equipment and double click or drag it to the red box
  4. Select the Onyx by double clicking or dragging to the empty box
  5. Click start.
How to get slotted gear: (note slotted gear is not tradable)
-Quests (usually higher level quests)(list to be added sometime)
-Mallets:
Mallets offer a chance to create 1 slot on 1 non-slotted item. The green mallets cannot produce a second slot however blue can. I would advise having strong or super providers providence when creating slots because mallets often fail causing the mallet to be destroyed.

Getting a Mallet:
Armor mallets can be won at Seizer's Palace or bought from the Cash Shop(It is probably only possible to get green mallets from Seizer's currently).
Weapon mallets can only be bought from the Cash Shop.

Using a Mallet:
  4. Select the Mallet by double clicking or dragging to the empty box
  5. Click start.
Removing an Onyx:
  1. Unequip item if it is equipped.
  2. Either double click on a mallet or onyx in your inventory or go to the skills menu (ctrl-x) click on the tab named “Everyday skills” and click the bottom right button labeled “Onyxes”
  3. Select the Equipment with the Onyx to be removed and double click or drag it to the red box
  4. Click on the Onyx so that a white box appears around it
  5. Click start
Selling an Onyx:
You can sell onyxes to the onyx buyer in the cities for a dice chest The new dice chest will keep the name of the onyx but now have "(___ Dice Chest)" in the name. You can use this new dice chest to win an onyx of equal level.

Future changes to onyxes:
-Slotmakers may be implemented and add more means to get slots.
-Bosses may drop onyxes. Crescendolls says, that in Japanese DoMO, bosses drop onyxes about 75% of the time(for lower levels at least).
